During the day dance troupes from the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, other Maryland Greek Orthodox parishes, and even parishes from neighboring states will perform traditional Greek dances. Prior and during the festival, GreekFolkFestival.com is your source for a full listing of participating churches and performance times.

During the evening, get ready to shout “Opa!” and dance to the live music of Apollonia on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday and the music of Neo Kyma on Friday and Saturday. 

And headlining the festival this year is Comedian Angelo Tsarchouras, who will perform live on Thursday, June 9, 2011. Tsarchouras arrives to the festival just off a nine country tour of the Middle East. His new Showtime 1 hour special "Bigger is Better" has been seen by more than 14 million people in the United States alone!

Also, this year the Festival hosts Bouzoukia night with Neo Kyma Saturday in the Church Hall. The following is the schedule of live events:

Thursday, June 9 (times subject to change)

  • Opening Ceremony emceed by Greek America Magazine's 40 Greek-American leaders under 40 award recipient Chrysovalantis Kefalas: 7 p.m.
  • Music by Apollonia: 7:30 p.m.
  • Angelo Tsarchouras Live: 8 p.m.

Friday, June 10

  • Dancing Performances: 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Music by Neo Kyma: 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 11
  • Dancing Performances: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Music by Apollonia: 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Bouzoukia with Neo Kyma: 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Sunday, June 13

One of the many highlights of the festival is live Greek Music. In 2011, the Festival will welcome Apollonia and Neo Kyma to bring the music of Greece to the streets of Baltimore.

APOLLONIA is one of the top Greek musical groups in North America. This critically acclaimed band, based in Baltimore, Maryland, features Maria Pearce, one of the country’s most talented female vocalists.  Live performances also feature newcomer vocalist Marc Tsakiris, Tony Pearce playing bouzouki and keyboard, John Skleres on the bouzouki, Dimitri Valmas playing the violin, and Frank Mitsos behind on the drums. They play both traditional and modern Greek and American music. They have performed at a plethora of dances, festivals, and other major events across the United States.

The band has recorded an album, Tosi Monaxia. They will performing on all four days of the festival. Check out their website at: www.apolloniaband.com.

NEO KYMA is a leading Mid-Atlantic Greek band, and has been playing in New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. Members of the band have had the honor to play behind such big name Greek stars as Dalaras, Marinela, and Mitropanos. George Marcantonis headlines the Band, with Tolis Kyriazis on Bouzouki, Nikos Zolotas on drums, and George Zagrafos on the keyboard.
